The Austrian Vignette Process

Follow these steps to ensure full compliance with Austrian motorway toll requirements.

   Determine your vehicle category

   Confirm whether your vehicle is a car, motorcycle, or vehicle over 3.5t. The vignette type and price differ by category.

   Choose the right vignette duration

   Select 10-day, 2-month, or annual based on your travel plans. Consider whether you will make multiple trips to Austria within the year.

   Select your purchase channel

   Choose between the ASFINAG website (digital), the ASFINAG App, a petrol station, or a border crossing kiosk.

   Complete the purchase

   For digital: enter your licence plate and select the start date. For physical: pay and receive the sticker.

   Affix the physical sticker (if applicable)

   Place the sticker on the inside of the windscreen before entering the motorway. Do not affix to removable film.

   Verify your digital vignette (if applicable)

   Check your vignette status on the ASFINAG website using your licence plate number.

   Check for special toll sections on your route

   Identify any Sondermaut sections and prepare payment (card or cash) in advance.

   Keep your purchase documentation

   Retain your receipt or email confirmation throughout your journey in case of queries.

   Drive and comply

   Observe Austrian speed limits, winter tyre requirements, and Rettungsgasse rules.

    Renew or cancel as needed

    Digital vignettes can be cancelled before the validity period begins if plans change. Physical stickers cannot be refunded once affixed.
